2009 Week #3 in the ITCL
            Youngstown Christian 40
             Sebring Trojans 13

Canfield - The night started off with the Trojans scoring first on a 90+ yard blocked field goal attempt run back for a touchdown.  Unfortunately the Trojans watched the YCS Eagles score 40 unamswered points in route to a 40-13 win.

The Trojans would score again early in the fourth quarter on a outstanding 73-yard touchdown run by Dakota Wagner.  The loss leaves the Trojans with a 1-2 record going into league play next week.
       McDonald 21  Mineral Ridge 8

Mineral Ridge - In what was a defensive battle in the first half, the McDonald Blue Devils pulled away in the second half lead by junior running back-linebacker Zach Tura.  Tura rushed for two touchdowns and intercepted a pass to help the Devils beat their heated rivals 21-8.

The Rams scored first with a safety when the Devils fumbled and Tura was tackled in his own endzone.  But the Devils would begin to take control on the Rams next possession when they blocked a punt, and capitalized a few plays later when Nick Cupan would run in for a touchdown.  The score would be 6-2 at halftime.

In the second half Tura would score on a long touchdown in the third quarter to put the Devils up 13-2.  The Rams offense would finally get on track when quarterback Zack Kiger would hit Dan Skiba for a 36-yard touchdown pass to cut the Devils advantage 13-8.

The Rams would threaten again early in the fourth quarter when Tura intercepted a pass at the Devils own 6-yard line.  Six plays later Tura would romp 56-yards for a second touchdown, and close out the scoring.  The drive would take 7 plays and cover 81 yards in what proved to be the final nail in the Rams coffin.

Cupan would lead the Devils in rushing with 120 yards on 20 carries, while Tura would have 115 yards on just 5 carries.  The Devils would accumilate 260 yards rushing and no yards passing.  The Rams had only 87 yards rushing and 100 yards passing.  Kiger would hit 7 of 13 passes, amd Kyle Skiba would lead with just 38 yards rushing for the Rams.
  Marlington 54  South Range 7

North Lima - The Raiders were overwhelmed by Division III opponent Marlington 54-7 as the first play of the game proved inauapicious with the Raiders fumbling the ball.

It would only take two plays for the Dukes to score before many fans had even found their seats.  The Raiders quarterback Vince Miller would hit a wide open Kyle Seaver for a touchdown later in the game to cut the deficit to 13-7, but the Dukes would explode in the second quarter to go up 39-7 at the half.

The Dukes sophomore running back Alden Hill would run around, through, and past Raider defenders in route to scoring several times on the night, while a speedy freshman running back Dymonte Thomas would also rush for a couple more scores.
There were both big blow outs and big wins.  Tonight most of the ITCL teams wrapped up their non-conference portion of the 2009 schedule.  Most of the league contenders won, but some faced some real test as they get set to start their quest to win league championships.
The McDonald Blue Devils improved to 3-0 on the season with a hard fought win against arch-rival Mineral Ridge 21-8, while Western Reserve, Wellsville, and Leetonia look poised to challenge with wins too.  Reserve beat Southington in a somewhat suprisingly close score of 28-0, while Wellsville blasted Lisbon 44-7, and Leetonia got back on the winning track with a 46-6 win over Mathews.
Southern improved to 2-1 on the season with a solid 28-0 win against the Toronto Red Knights, but unfortunately the Jackson-Milton Blue Jays and Lowellville Rockets came up short on the scoreboard.  The Jays lost to Grand Valley 23-8, and Lowellville lost to the Springfield Tigers.  On Thursday night, the Sebring Trojans were quickly taken back to earth after last week's win with Youngstown Christian winning 40-13.
Columbiana and Crestview continue to look impressive as the Clippers beat the Struthers Wildcats 37-0 and Cresstview squeaked past Tuscarawas Valley 16-14.  Both teams have improved to 3-0 on the season and may be headed on a collision course.  As mentioned, Springfield improved to 2-1 with an impressive 31-12 win over Lowellville.
United picked up their first win on the season with a narrow 7-0 victory over the Rootstown Rovers.  Mineral Ridge, as already mentioned, dropped their second game of the season with the loss to McDonald, and South Range also suffered it's second set back with a surprising 54-7 demolition by the Marlington Dukes.  Lisbon continues to struggle as stated with the loss to Wellsville 44-7.
Tomorrow night the ITCL will wrap up week #3 play when the East Palestine Bulldogs invade Harding Stadium in Steubenville to take on the Central Catholic Crusaders.

The East Palestine Bulldogs dominated the Steubenville Cetnral Catholic Crusaders Saturday night as they jumped out to a 30-0 halftime advantage, and won the game 30-6.  The win pushes the Bulldogs record to 3-0, and sets up a crucial game next week at Reid Memorial Stadium in East Palestine between the Columbiana Clippers (3-0) and the Bulldogs.
