**History of the Tri County League**

The first organizational meeting held by the Tri County League was on January 21, 1932 at Rietler’s Confectionary in Sebring. Glen Rupert, Sebring Principal, was elected the president, and William Ward, East Palestine Faculty Manager, was named secretary Treasure.
Other meetings occurred in months to come and by the beginning of the 1932-33 school year the league began play in Football and Basketball. The league consisted of; Boardman, Columbiana,
East Palestine, Leetonia, Lisbon, Louisville, Minerva, and Sebring.
Only one team has been a league member since it began.
Lisbon is the only team to stay throughout all the years. Leetonia dropped out from 1935-1949 entering again in 1950. Columbiana had 2 absences from 1951 – 1956 and then again from 1976 – 1991. East Palestine withdrew from the league in 1976 and didn’t reenter until the 1990 season. Boardman’s last year in the league was in 1950, Louisville left after the 1966 season and Minerva’s last year was in 1971.
Sebring’s last year in the league was 2004.  Other teams that were members of the league at one point or another were; Beaver Local,
Stanton Local, Toronto, Wellsville, and Springfield (Jefferson) Local (not to be confused with New Middletown Springfield Local).  In January of 2005, the superintendents of the TCL decided to merge with the schools from the Inter-County League to form a new two tier, 16 member league.  This new league, the Inter-Tri County League (ITCL), will begin play in the 2006-07 school year.
